Reasoning Steps

Step 1

Open your Excel file containing employee data with columns: Department, Name, Emp ID, Salary, and Designation.

Step 2

Select the entire dataset in the table, then click on the Data tab on the ribbon. From the Sort & Filter section, click Sort, and in the Sort By dropdown, select Designation to organize the employees by their job designation.

Step 3

After sorting, select the entire dataset again, then go to the Data tab and click Subtotal to open the Subtotal dialog box.

Step 4

In the Subtotal dialog: For "At each change in", select Designation to subtotal by each job title. Choose Sum as the function (or another function if needed). For "Add subtotal to", check Salary (to calculate the total salary per designation).

Step 5

Click OK to apply the subtotals. Excel will insert subtotal rows for each designation, showing the total salary per job title.

Step 6

Use the outline symbols on the left side of the worksheet to expand or collapse the subtotals, allowing you to view salary totals by designation or the overall grand total.
